Fear of the Lord
"All man tend to become satisfied and forget who God is and what He has done for us.
Moses cautioned his people that when they had become satisfied, they should praise the Lord their God and be careful not to forget Him." Man in the Mirror by Patrick Morley
Deuteronomy 8:12-20
12 For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in, 13 and when your flocks and herds have become very large and your silver and gold have multiplied along with everything else, be careful! 14 Do not become proud at that time and forget the Lord your God, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt. 15 Do not forget that he led you through the great and terrifying wilderness with its poisonous snakes and scorpions, where it was so hot and dry. He gave you water from the rock! 16 He fed you with manna in the wilderness, a food unknown to your ancestors. He did this to humble you and test you for your own good. 17 He did all this so you would never say to yourself, ‘I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy.’ 18 Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath.
19 “But I assure you of this: If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods, worshiping and bowing down to them, you will certainly be destroyed. 20 Just as the Lord has destroyed other nations in your path, you also will be destroyed if you refuse to obey the Lord your God.
"The fear of God keeps a man humble; the absence of the fear of God leads to pride.
The man who does not fear God becomes so proud that he cannot detect his own sinfulness" unquote
Lord you have given me sheep, you have given me lambs
You have brought me thus far
through mountain tops and valley plains
You have rescued me when I was sinking in quicksand
You have given me divine help with heavenly hope
Lord teach us to have this reverent fear of you.
When I think of why you've chosen us, your daughters out of millions
I shudder to think where I will be now.....
if my heart did not respond to your calling
what would I have become...............
if your hand of mercy did not shield me
I am overwhelmed by your goodness to us all
You gave us families, housing, education, transport
and we are blessed to be born in peaceful times.
You helped us through growing up pains
rescued us from slavery to our old habits
replenished our parched souls
O Lord I live to worship you.
Proverbs 9:10-12 (New Living Translation)
10 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom.
Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.
11 Wisdom will multiply your days
and add years to your life.
12 If you become wise, you will be the one to benefit.
If you scorn wisdom, you will be the one to suffer.
Tonight I have come to this conclusion.
I cannot profess that I am a Christian if I do not have the Fear of the Lord
