My academic aspirations came from a tin of Kraft Cheddar cheese
Now they come in blue boxes but they taste exactly the same in the 1960's
It helped me face and do battle through the years in sch and university.

Today Kel asked a very pertinent question which everyone had to ans for themselves.
WHY do you study?
We know we have to, but why do it?
A.Is it for God?
B.Is it for yourself?
C.Is it to please yr parents?

A.Jun finds determination and direction in Colossians3:23
"Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people."
That's a great verse to keep in mind that God is our master and we serve Him only.
Helps esp when its as tiresome as Chinese perhaps.

B.For some of us, studying has a 'self' motive. So that we can excel one day find a job and live comfortably. I had similar thoughts as a 7 yr old too.
I was in a foster home. Once in a blue moon my nanny will get a can of Kraft Cheese to feed a whole bunch of us deprived kids. I relish cheese so much that I will pick up the small crumps that fell from people's bread. Nothing wrong with that except that I picked them up from the corrugated rubber door mat. I promised myself that I will study hard and when I have money I will buy as much cheese as I can devour.
That was some cheesy motivation amongst many others.
Another was seeing how my father had to think of ways to get my uni sch fees.
He told me to warn him way before time.

C.Our parents are very proud of our achievements no matter how small. From the time we could stand and proceed with two steps to the time we start work.It is a sense of accomplishment, a sense of duty to launch us into the world as useful netizens. Kel's paternal grandma lived in an era when girls were NOT allowed much education. It was seen as a waste of time and resourses. No wonder granny was insomnic before Kel's convocation. Don't blame her for being excited. But Kel its really quite funny when I imagine her edentulous smile and her dentures smiling back at her.

Thanks DNA for reminding us it is a blessing in the first place to be able to speak English and use it to enrich our lives and that of others
Yes we girls are grateful for a chance to be educated,to enjoy literacy and to be discerning and compassionate as we read about other nations. A chance to beautify ourselves inwardly as our hearts respond.

Audrey its ok to want to try many things when you are young and capable. Consult with the authorities that God has placed over you and work within this safety boundary.
But you are wise to let go of the things that will weigh you down and steal your time with God.(even if these are legitimate activities)
Luke16:13
"No one can serve 2 masters. For you will hate one and serve the other;
You will be devoted to one and despise the other.
You cannot serve both God and MONEY." and in your case its called BUSY

Angela I always say you have a warm heart. You think of your parents and take calculated steps not to make them sad. When you put in consistent work and get extra help from tuition speaks well of your determination. Your parents ought to be proud.
God's name is honoured when you honour your parents.

Wen Xin you are the cause of our obsession, my obession with why we study.
We love the fact that you are with us and you are forthright.
Pity you are not like Debbie.
She loves her subjects. Well some subjects like art. She's a rare species.

Another rare species. Eunice.
When you were very young, Chris told me you said you wanted to be a missionary.
He was happy for you except that most children change their minds as often as they change their shoes.
When He calls I pray you will be ready and equipped with a MBBS. We went WOW. But really our hearts are glad. Is it too late to say "Praise God your ambition is for the Lord."

Annabel you remember to pray for Eunice and her desire OK? You are always to me the one who is prayerful and has the fear of the Lord. You tasted God's goodness to you.
You testified how God delivered you from a lot of trouble when you were prompted to reach into your pocket for yr hp. Won't be fun to have a suspicion of cheating hanging over your head.
God gave you success in studying the right stuff for yr Geog paper too.Hmmm He favours you.

Jeanette may you have the best conditions to do yr Chinese paper tmr
Rmb Exodus4:10,11,12 as you deliver your PW
V12 Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say."

Victoria. We were late late late to finish cos timekeeper not around.

So guys come around next week 5.30 to 615
When you share it enriches me
It keeps me young and obsessed.

Angelly had thoughts regarding fairness and how God will judge people who never heard the Gospel.
Annabelly I found the verse we were interested in.
Gospel of Matthew 24:14
Entitled Signs of the end of age.
Jesus warned the disciples that in the end times false prophets would spring up in the land and fool many people.
24:12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold,
24:13 but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.

24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world
as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.(NIV)
24:14 And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come.(NLT)

The Day and Hour Unknown

What follows actually made my hair stand.
24:37 When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah's day. In those days before the flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat. People didn't realise what was going to happen until the flood came and swept them all away. That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes.
If you have watched a documentary or real footage of the tsunami you will know what I mean.
Read the rest of the chapter24 for yourself
We are asked to behave in a worthy manner
To be faithful and wise servants awaiting our Lord's return.
There is a warning with a painful and dreadful end for the wicked.
It made my hair stand some more.

I believe Jesus will warn everybody before the end comes.
Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.
Lord have mercy.

Let me try to recall the Q that Angela half asked and half posed to herself.I thought it rather interesting and profound. I don't know the answer and I think some things dont get answered till we see God.
In essence she asked what will happen to those people who dies before they had a chance to hear the Gospel. What will happen when the Lord comes before some people get the chance to know Him.
Annabel said something like Jesus will not come till every living soul on earth has had a chance to listen to the gospel. I recall something like that too in Revelations I thought.
But I just could not find it tonight. When I have time I 'll search Bible gateway.
Diana said there is little excuse to say God does not exist when you can look at many wonders around us. True or not I wonder. ha ha i am only teasing.

I do believe Paul warns Timothy and Titus not to get into unprofitable disputes
and arguments.
We have absolutely no intention to petty quarrels, right guys?
We ask not because we do believe but we are awed by how a Righteous Loving Judge can do justice in these situations.
Our thoughts are just so not like His thoughts

When we lack wisdom we should ask God.
This week I am so crushed for time I have to resort to online Thot for Today.
You can also choose to do the 'devotions' for those who need materials daily.

I will surely die if I have to work tmr.
I will surely live because tmr is a public holiday.
U are always on my mind.
Believe it or not.
Believe it.
I'll be back. O this one is so yesterday.
